Bachelors of Fine Arts, Fine Arts - 3.69
December 2027
Being part of the Fine Arts Program at the University of West Florida has helped me grow both as an artist and as a person. The combination of studio classes, art history, and theory has pushed me to experiment with new mediums and develop my own style. I have learned that art is not just about technique but also about communication and connection. Through projects, exhibitions, and community work, I have witnessed how art can positively impact people and convey meaningful ideas. The support and guidance from professors have also helped me build confidence in my creative process and vision.
My experience in the Kugelman Honors Program has added another layer to my growth. It has encouraged me to think critically and connect my creative work to broader cultural and intellectual themes. The honors curriculum has taught me how to approach my art with deeper purpose and curiosity. Together, the Fine Arts and Honors programs have helped me strengthen my skills, refine my thinking, and prepare for a future where I can continue to create, learn, and grow as an artist.
My Story Paper
Writing this piece made me realize how much my academic journey has shaped the person I am today. Reflecting on all the schools I attended and the experiences I had helped me see just how much I have grown through change and challenge. It reminded me why I value self-advocacy, resilience, and persistence in my education, and how important those qualities have been in navigating new environments. This assignment also helped me recognize how those lessons continue to influence my choices at UWF, both in the classroom and in my creative work, and how they guide my long-term goals as an artist.
France/Italy
Study Abroad
I took a study abroad trip with several other Honors students to explore the rich cultures of France and Italy. Over the course of two weeks, we traveled to six different cities, each offering its own unique atmosphere and traditions. Throughout the trip, we immersed ourselves in the local cultures by learning about regional cuisines, observing traditional customs, and visiting important historical sites. The experience allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse cultural identities that shape both countries.
Service Project
This semester’s service helped me feel more connected to campus and more confident in myself. Between council meetings, helping with tennis practices and events, and creating posts for the University Commons, I learned how to stay organized, communicate better, and work with others in a way that actually felt meaningful. Balancing everything was tough at times, but adapting on the spot and staying committed showed me what I’m capable of. Looking back, I’m proud of the effort I put in and the growth I can see in myself, and I’m leaving the semester feeling more prepared to take initiative and make a real impact in my community.
The Impact and Control of Invasive Lionfish in Florida
During my Honors Core natural sciences class, we completed a semester-long group research project focused on a scientific issue relevant to our local environment. My group chose to study lionfish, an invasive species that has become increasingly problematic in our region. Throughout the semester, we investigated how lionfish impact native marine ecosystems, the factors contributing to their rapid spread, and the environmental consequences of their growing population. We also explored potential strategies to control and reduce their numbers, as well as ways the community can help protect native species. This project allowed us to apply scientific research methods while addressing a real-world ecological challenge.
